For the past three years, crime in my Auburn neighborhood has risen. I accepted the car and house break-ins, siphoned gas, damage to vehicles and property as the new normal.

That view changed, when, I found my Dachshund eating rat poison just inside my bedroom door. I called the Auburn police about it, they did nothing, because she survived.

The 'normal' crime continued, a few months later, my dog was very interested in something in the grass. Upon checking, and after she had consumed some, I found a small pile of greenish pellets - rat poison. I reported this, too. I was given a case number and told that extra patrol would be in the area. Nothing. Luckily, my Dachshund survived.

Yesterday, at around 10:45 PM I took my Dachshund out before bed. She was zoned in on a spot.I had a bad feeling. Sure enough, a mound of rat poison. She is very sick. I don't have money for a trip to the vet, so I wait.

Even though my goal in life is to help people, I don't expect everyone in the city of Auburn to like me. That is fine. If a person has an issue with me, it would be nice if they would speak to me about it, instead of poisoning my dog.

She is the sweetest dog and the kids near my house love to pet her and decorate her with flowers. It would be very sad to tell those little girls that someone killed, their friend.

How can people be so cruel?
