My name is Theresa Allender. I live with my husband Brian and my one year old daughter Maya in the Rainier Beach area (specifically Beacon Ave S). For years this area has had a high crime rate, with most of our neighbors, ourselves included, having been the victims of crime on more than one occasion.
My family and I have lived on Beacon Ave S for 3 years now. About 2.5 years ago, our house was broken into and burglarized. About 6 months ago, while I was home with my baby, someone tried to kick down my front door. On Friday, July 22nd, once again our house was burglarized. We have ADT as well as a security camera, neither of which stopped this last criminal from kicking down our door and stealing irreplaceable items.
We have reported the incident to the police who are working on our case, but have limited time and resources.
While we don't have a video of the criminal actually breaking into our home due to the failure of the security camera in back of the house, our front camera caught him casing the front of our home and then running around to the back at the same time that the ADT alarm was activated (12:26pm).
My daughter lives in this high crime area and my family and I are fed up with the crimes in the Rainier Beach Community. I want a safer place to raise my children and I know my neighbors do as well. As one policeman puts it "the families on this street are all so skiddish due to so many break-ins". Enough is enough.
I am sending you a video as well as a picture captured from the video of this particular criminal and am offering a $500 reward for any information leading to his arrest. I strongly believe we can send a message by capturing this man and that it is one small step toward making Rainier Beach a safer place to live. In order for this to happen, I need your help to reach the public. I am asking that you air either the video, the picture, or both with our offer of a reward on your local news station. Please help this neighborhood. We desperately need it. I don't know of any other way.
