Areas West of the Cascades
Sunny and warm if not downright hot weather will continue today through most of the holiday weekend. Temperatures will be well above normal with daytime highs reaching into the 80s and 90s across the interior, 10-15 degrees warmer than normal. Many of the immediate coastal areas will remein cloudy through much of the day with temperatures only reaching the 60s.

Monday will be a much cooler day with plenty of clouds and a threat of some showers, mainly over the mountains. This will be the general idea for a large part of the week as a deep upper level low gradually settles in Monday and Tuesday and then lingers through the remainder of the week. Thus, this part of the region will generally have cooler than normal temperatures with a good amount of clouds and some showers through the period.

The Cascades & Areas East
Afternoon high temperatures will warm another 3-4 degrees today, then a degree or two warmer than that Saturday afternoon as an upper high pressure ridge axis moves overhead. Temperatures across the lower Columbia Basin will be especially hot with many areas hitting the 100 degree mark. While most areas will be dry, there will be enough moisture for isolated showers and thunderstorms afternoons and evenings mostly over parts of central and eastern Oregon.

An area of low pressure will be over the region Monday through Thursday. This will bring cooler temperatures with daytime highs in the 70s to mid 80s with 60s in the mountains. There is a chance of showers through the period for most of the area with a slight chance of thunderstorms in the eastern mountains each afternoon and evening.
