PDX pushing toward record rainfall

KGW Sunrise forecast: 10-17-16

PORTLAND, Ore. -- The rainfall at Portland International Airport so far this month has already topped the normal rainfall totals for October, and there's still plenty of rain coming in the next two weeks.

The average October sees 3 inches of rain at PDX. As of Sunday, the month had already reached 5.37 inches. The record for the month, set in 1994, was 8.41 inches, which included one 24-hour dumping of 4.44 inches.

If the current 7-day rainfall outlook holds, the total this month could be over 7 inches by October 23.

While 8.41 inches at the airport in a month is a hefty dousing, the downtown record is much more impressive (and much older). In October 1882, downtown Portland saw 11.63 inches of rain. The driest October downtown was 13 years later, when only a trace fell all month.
