PORTLAND -- Monday will be a miserable day for weather, with heavy rain in the morning and wind gusts all day that could reach 50 mph throughout the Portland area and the valley.

Gusts at the coast could reach 60 mph, according to KGW meteorologist Nick Allard, with valley gusts to 50 and 40 mph in the Portland area.

Highs will be in the mid-50s in Portland, with possible thunderstorms. Heavy rain Monday morning will turn to showers by the afternoon, Allard said.

The Cascades will be under a winter weather advisory, with snow from eight to 18 inches possible and the freezing level from 2,500 to 3,000 feet.
