PORTLAND -- Recent rainfall and ground saturation are thought to be the causes of a tree that fell and crushed a car in the Goose Hollow neighborhood on Tuesday.
Crews responded to the area of SW 14th & Columbia at around 5:15 p.m. on reports of a tree that fell on two cars. A Portland Fire spokesman said a man was driving his car when the tree fell on it, but he wasn't injured and the car wasn't heavily damaged. Another car -- empty and parked nearby -- was crushed by the tree.
Power lines also fell after being pulled down by the tree. SW Columbia was closed as PGE crews worked to clean up the area and keep it safe.
Portland Fire said the recent rainfall may have saturated the soil, causing the tree to fall.
