PORTLAND, Ore. -- The National Weather Service issued a high wind warning for the Oregon Coast from 11 p.m. until 8:00 a.m. Tuesday.

NWS said beaches and headlands of South Washington, North Oregon, and Central Oregon would see winds increasing to 30 to 40 mph with gusts to 65 mph. See the forecast

The strongest winds were expected between 1 a.m. and 6 a.m.

KGW Chief Meteorologist Matt Zaffino said after that there was a good chance of thunderstorms in the Portland area.

The surf zone was also expected to remain "choppy and chaotic," NWS said. Debris and large logs would likely wash ashore.

Peak gusts in Portland Sunday were reported at 52 mph. Gusts of 57 mph were recorded in Eugene, 54 mph in Salem.
