CENTRALIA, Wash. – A two-alarm fire gutted a historic downtown Centralia building Tuesday morning, forcing the evacuation of several apartments.

The call went out at 2:19 a.m. at 101 S. Tower Avenue. Witness Brad Baxter said it is in the historic Dr. Matz building. Baxter said firefighters told him the first floor had collapsed.

Twelve people in apartments above the first floor were evacuated. The Red Cross is helping them find shelter.

Nobody was hurt and investigators are looking for the cause of the fire.
