PORTLAND -- A woman accused of stabbing her boyfriend's three-year-old daughter pleaded not guilty in court Tuesday morning.
Serenity Sanchez, 22, showed no emotion in court as her attorney entered her not guilty plea. She is charged with attempted murder, assault and unlawful use of a weapon.
When investigators found the little girl on Jan. 2nd, Alena Groves was lying on her stomach with a laceration to her torso and she told police that Sanchez had hit her.
According to court documents, Alena's dad told police that he was trying to break up with Sanchez and that's when she stabbed his daughter inside a home in the 3300 block of Southeast 129th Avenue in Southeast Portland.
The child was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. But she has since been upgraded to good condition after undergoing surgery at Oregon Health and Science University.
Sanchez' trial was scheduled to begin in February.
