REDWOOD CITY, Calif. - Two of the accused Craigslist killers were arrested in California and they are awaiting an appearance Wednesday in San Mateo County Court on unrelated weapons charges.

Kiyoshi Higashi told KING 5 during the course of a 20-minute interview that he, Josh Reese and Amanda Knight left the Seattle area on Friday - two days after the murder – but he says it was to visit friends.

All three were arrested on Saturday morning. That's when Daly City police say they were part of a routine police stop in that community near San Francisco.

Authorities say Knight's white Crown Victoria did not have a front license plate. But when officers started questioning the three, Reese and Higashi got squirmy, giving false names and ditching an ID.

A police search of the vehicle found a handgun which was within reach of Reese.

The three were booked into the San Mateo County Jail Saturday night.

Court documents say Higashi called his father Monday from jail in California to tell him he was arrested and police had the gun used in the Edgewood robbery and that "it wasn't supposed to go that way."

But Higashi tells KING 5 he didn't say that. He does acknowledge the threesome had a gun in their car and it did look incriminating for them to leave the Seattle area.

Reese and Higashi are scheduled to have their first appearances on the gun charges Wednesday at the courthouse in Redwood City. A judge will also talk about extradition back to Pierce County.

Pierce County Prosecutor Mark Lindquist said if the two waive their extradition, they could be back soon to answer to the murder charge.
