GOVERNMENT CAMP, Ore. – As snow continues to dump on Mt. Hood, officials at area ski resorts have been chatting excitedly about when they may be able to get all the lifts operating and now officials at Timberline think the magic day for them could be Saturday.

Snow began accumulating at both Timberline Lodge and Mt. Hood Meadows last Sunday morning, with white-out conditions at times.

Timberline generally opens all its chair lifts for the season once the area has at least three feet of snow.

Last year, Timberline opened on November 11. The ski area has only managed to open before Halloween three different times in its 50-year history.

Mt. Hood Meadows was able to open in October once in the past 16 seasons. Marketing director Dave Tragethon said it’s looking good for this year, too.

Season passes are already on sale for both Timberline and Mt. Hood Meadows.

Meantime, road crews have been working hard to clear Highway 26 of snow.
