SEATTLE -- If you don’t have a friend with a yacht, or a space on the log boom for your own boat, odds are you will be getting to Seafair by land. And that is a challenge.

Parking is at a premium around the lakefront of south Lake Washington. Some enterprising homeowners will sell you a spot on their lawn, but frustration has met many a Seafair fans who missed out because they couldn’t park the car.

So the solution, say the folks who run Seafair: Park off site at one of the locations designated (Airport, Qwest Field, Downtown), then take light rail into the Othello Station.

Sea-Tac airport is offering a parking discount coupon for drivers headed to Seafair. To get a coupon, click here.

At the Othello Station, a shuttle will be available to take crowds to the Seafair site.

But if you plan on driving into Seattle, when the U.S. Navy Blue Angels jets begin zipping over Lake Washington, drivers won’t be cruising across the Interstate 90 floating bridge at the same time.

Crews will close the bridge from 12:45 p.m. to 2:40 p.m. each day for the full air shows. The center roadway closes at 10:45 a.m. It will reopen to eastbound traffic by 3:30 p.m. each day. The bicycle and pedestrian path on the I-90 floating bridge will be closed to pedestrians and cyclists up to 30 minutes prior to posted closure times.

The Washington State Department of Transportation warns, "to avoid congestion, drivers who want to cross Lake Washington via I-90 should plan to get to the bridge at least an hour ahead of the closures and consider using alternate routes such as I-405, SR 520 or I-5."

Once you reach Lake Washington, much of the lakefront is fenced off, and require tickets to get close to the hydro race course. Tickets are available at the gate. Prices are as follows:

SEAFAIR SATURDAY, August 6

Seniors - $10

Adult - $20 Advance, $30 at the Gate

Youth - $10 Advance/Gate

Military - Military with ID - Free; Military Family Member with ID - $10

SEAFAIR SUNDAY, August 7 - CHAMPIONSHIP

Adult - $25 Advance, $30 at the Gate

Youth - $10 Advance/Gate

Military - Military with ID - Free; Military Family Member with ID - $10

Even with hi-def, television really doesn’t do justice to all that is Seafair. The roar of the hydros, and the aerobatics of the Navy’s Blue Angels is something everyone should see in person, at least once.
