SAUVIE ISLAND, Ore. --The pilot of a disabled plane was able to make safe landing Sunday afternoon on the west end of Sauvie Island.

The unidentified pilot was unhurt, said Multnomah County sheriff's office spokeswoman Lt. Mary Lindstrand.

Lindstrand said the pilot was able to stay aloft long enough to find an open spot and bring the plane down in one piece in a wheat field.

Further details were not available.
