SALEM – A pedestrian died early Thursday morning after getting stuck by a car while walking along Interstate-5 in Salem, police said.
It happened around 6 a.m., on I-5 southbound, near milepost 258.
Police said it appeared that the pedestrian was trying to walk across the southbound lanes when the person was struck on the dark morning.
The gender, age and name of the victim had not yet been released. The driver of the vehicle that struck the pedestrian was cooperating with police.
The stretch of the busy interstate was closed during the investigation. A detour was routing drivers off I-5 at exit 260 and people traveling both directions were warned to expect major delays during the rush hour.
