If you thought that you needed to go north to find great hockey, you would be wrong. You can catch Wednesday's NHL stars right here in the Puget Sound area.

Washington state has four Western Hockey League (WHL) teams, including the Seattle Thunderbirds, where KING 5's Christie Johnson was Tuesday morning.

The club kicked off it's 34th campaign just weeks ago, and despite missing the post-season last year, the team looks solid boasting a four and two record thus far.  Head coach Rob Sumner says that the team is bigger, older and much more physical and that he is expecting a great year.

The T-birds take on the Calgary Hitmen, the defending league champions, on Saturday, October 16th. The puck drops at 7 p.m. For more information or for tickets visit www.seattlethunderbirds.com.
