Parking garage rape
SEATTLE - Police are searching for a rapist who attacked a medical worker inside a Seattle parking garage Friday morning.
The attack happened at 5:45 a.m. inside the top floor of a structure located at 600 Broadway Avenue on Seattle's First Hill.
The victim told officers she walked down to the parking garage to get her cell phone when a stranger attacked her from behind. According to officers, the attacker threw the woman to the ground and raped her.
Police say the rapist wore a face mask and said he had a gun. He took off on foot after the attack.
An alert was sent out to hundreds of employee at the 600 Broadway Medical Center. The building managers say they will be increasing security in the parking garages until this rapist is caught,
The victim was transported to the hospital and is recovering.
Kerri Ajer works and parks in the medical complex. She says she will be using the buddy system when going to and from her car.
"It's really scary, especially leaving night or by yourself. If you are getting out of work late, it's not very comforting to walk around alone," said Ajer.
Other nurses say they will pay more attention to their surroundings.
The attack occurred across the street from Swedish Medical Center and next door to Seattle University. Both institutions sent out warning e-mails to staff and students.
After the attack, security officers from Seattle University searched campus parking structures, but could not locate the suspect.
Police are reviewing videotape from nearby business surveillance cameras to see if the rapist may have been loitering around before the crime.
Seattle police are calling the attack an isolated incident. If you have information that can help solve this case, you are asked to call the Seattle Police Department.
