PORT TOWNSEND, Wash. - Friends, family and students across Washington state are remembering a local hero musician, Andy Mackie.
Mackie, known as the "Harmonica Man" or the "Music Man," died Saturday. KING 5 profiled him in our "Making a Difference" series.
Thirteen years ago, after his ninth heart surgery, Mackie stopped taking his medicine and put his money toward teaching students music.
The Chimacum man gave out 20,000 harmonicas and 5,500 Mackie music sticks to students across the state and country.
Mackie's family says he had a heart attack and stroke last month and died Saturday. He was 72.
