EDMONDS, Wash. - A neighborhood in Edmonds is one step closer to getting a brand-new playground.
Students and parents at Westgate Elementary School entered a national contest at Kaboom.org to win $5,000 for new playground equipment. They created a one-minute video to the popular Beatles song "Help" in a plea for a playground that is old, rusty and unsafe.
Some of the playground equipment at Westgate Elementary School in Edmonds is decades old.
"When I was young, it was not so good as well and it's been like this for a very long time," said Nate McCarthy, a sixth grader.
Their video was so popular, they are now in the top ten and the public has the chance to vote for the winner. The principal, Rob Baumgartner, said they think they impressed their judges with their creativity.
"I think, in part, because it is so fun and it's really catchy and we've really gotten the word out to the community and asked them to vote," said Baumgartner.
