Remember Me (PG-13)

"Remember Me" is a tragic, odd, uneven film. Well-acted and meaningful one minute, highly annoying and melodramatic the next.

Robert Pattinson, the angst-driven vampire in "Twilight," proves he has the acting chops playing Tyler, a grungy, angry, chain-smoking 22-year-old, living in Manhattan. Wouldn't you know it, the big grump meets a nice girl named Natalie, played well by Emilie de Ravin from TV's "Lost."

Their 20-something romance is filled with bad parents, bad behavior and bad roommates. Around every corner is another angry reason for Tyler and Natalie to give up.

"Remember Me" is directed with a heavy-hand by Allen Coulter. He directed "Hollywoodland" and a dozen episodes of "The Sopranos." Don't be deceived, his rainy day character study is not about romance, it's about conflict.

"Remember Me" features a decent performance by Pierce Brosnan as the equally angry father but this is mostly an angst-driven vehicle for Robert Pattinson.

"Remember Me" also features a shocking twist ending which just might make you angry. Why not, everyone else in this melancholy movie is furious about something.

She's Out of My League (R)

I'll never admit "She's Out of My League" is a good film but I will admit it's funny.

Jay Baruchel plays Kirk, the kind and nerdy airport security guard. Along comes a beautiful event-planner, played by the likable Alice Eve, and before you can say "kiss a frog," the cute girl likes the goofy guy.

"She's Out of My League" is a predictable, R-rated, sometimes raunchy, formula comedy with an obvious message. But the two leads are fun to watch and their weird friends are just as interesting. It's a movie that doesn't pretend to be anything other than a silly light-hearted adult comedy. Keep your sights average.
