Beaverton looking to outlaw fake guns

BEAVERTON, Ore. - Officials are looking to make Beaverton the first Oregon city to ban replica guns in public areas.
Beaverton police Chief David Bishop asked the city attorney's office to draft an ordinance that would ban airsoft guns.
Most have a brightly colored plastic barrel tip to distinguish them from real weapons. But some users paint the tip to make it more closely resemble a real gun.
Beaverton police say the replica guns look too real, and it's only a matter of time before there's a fatal mistake.
A Beaverton Police Department spokesman says it's impossible for responding officers to tell if it is a real or a fake gun.
In Vancouver, a police officer killed a man who pointed a fake gun at him.
If Beaverton passes its ordinance, anyone caught in a public place with a replica could be cited with a violation.
