ESTACADA, Ore. - The Clackamas County Sheriff’s Dept. arrested a 6th grade girl’s basketball coach after a disturbance at a game in Estacada on Saturday afternoon.

Clackamas County Sheriff's Office

34-year-old Jeffrey Larsen was arrested after causing a near riot following a 6th grade girl's basketball game.

Clackamas County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the Estacada High School gym after the game between the Estacada and Molalla teams turned rowdy.

Deputies said the incident started when the Molalla girl’s coach, 34-year-old Jeffrey Scott Larsen, received two technical fouls and was ejected from the game.

Witnesses told deputies that a 6th grade girl was cut on the hand when Larsen slammed down his clipboard and stormed off.

Deputies say Larsen failed to leave the game floor, as required by law. Instead, he continued to coach his players from a corner of the gym and verbally harassed the 17-year-old referee of the game.

Witnesses said Larsen’s actions caused the Molalla fans to join in the taunting of the referee, and the fan hostility continued to escalate over time.

Witnesses reported that at the end of the game, Larsen stormed back onto the basketball court, grabbed the teen referee, menacingly cocked his arm back with a clenched fist and used profanity.

When the game ended the frenzied crowd descended onto the floor and fans on both sides began to face off against each other. No physical injuries were reported.

Estacada Junior High School principal Kevin Olds told police there were an estimated 75 parents and children in attendance who witnessed this event. Olds said many of the girls were frightened, crying and fleeing the building with their parents.

An assistant coach with the Molalla team was also questioned after reports surfaced that he shoved the teen referee and the Estacada coach.

Clackamas County Sheriff's deputies arrested Larsen at his home in Molalla on Sunday morning.

Larsen was cited for a Class C misdemeanor for criminally trespassing at a sporting event and was cooperative with police.

His first court appearance is scheduled for March 17.

The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office is asking anyone who may have videotaped the event to contact the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office at (503) 655-8211.
