NEWPORT, Ore. - The U.S. Coast Guard rescued two surfers trapped on the rocks near Yaquina Head.

Petty Officer Shawn Eggert said a helicopter crew hoisted a man and a girl from a spot near Otter Rock and took them safely to shore Sunday afternoon.

The initial call for help indicated three surfers needed rescue. But one of the three managed to get back to shore without help.

The Coast Guard said the 13-year-old girl was taken to a local hospital to be treated for shock and hypothermia.
