PENDELTON, Ore. - Interstate 84 near Pendleton has reopened after being closed Friday morning due to high winds and poor visibility. At its peak, blowing dust reduced visibility to near zero.

Three commercial vehicles and another vehicle were overturned, and several Oregon State Police cars suffered damaged by airborne rocks.

State Patrol Lieutenant Greg Sherman reported no injuries related to the overturned vehicles between milepost 216 and 218 east of Pendleton.

Five OSP patrol cars and two OSP Fish & Wildlife pickups operated by troopers responding to the overturned vehicles received windshield and body damage from wind-driven flying rocks.

Oregon Highway 11 between Pendleton and Milton-Freewater was also temporarily closed due to low visibility, blowing dust and debris. In Southern Oregon, Oregon 140 linking Medford and Klamath Falls was reported closed.

A major storm is affecting travel in Southern Oregon along the I-5 and U.S. 97 corridors. Drivers heading south to California this weekend should consider changing their plans. High winds are expected to hit the Northern Oregon Coast and the Willamette Valley. Snow levels in the Portland metro area are predicted to drop to about 500 feet Sunday.
