Harvest moon rises Friday

SEATTLE -- The harvest moon, which always puts on a show, will rise Friday evening.

The harvest moon is the full moon that is seen nearest to the time of the autumnal equinox.

It gets its name because farmers in the Northern Hemisphere are harvesting their crops during that time. The harvest moon usually occurs in September and occasionally in October.

This year, a lunar eclipse will occur during the harvest moon, although it will not be visible in the United States.
