ABERDEEN, Wash.-- Kevin Bardy calls the beheadings of journalists in the Middle East "disheartening."

Islamic State extremists released a video Tuesday purportedly showing the beheading of American journalist Steven Sotloff, two weeks after the release of video showing the killing of James Foley.

It's especially disturbing to the retired Army Master Sergeant who spent three tours in Iraq and one in Afghanistan.

"It's kind of a shame after I spent two years of my life in that region," said Bardy, "Now we've got these radical Islamic fundamentalists coming in and doing what they do best, all the wrong things."

Vietnam Veteran Terry Holderman heads up the Veterans of Foreign Wars post in Aberdeen.

"Makes a person feel kind of futile that we actually can't do something about it," said Holderman.
