BATTLE GROUND -- Unspecified threats Tuesday have prompted Battle Ground School District officials to shut down five schools for Wednesday.

The closure was due to a series of threats against students and staff at Chief Umtuch Middle School, said Greg Herrington, district spokesman.

The other schools are Captain Strong Primary, Summit View Middle, CAM Adademy and Battle Ground High.

The decision was made in conjunction with Battle Ground police, he said.

The closure was announced around 1 a.m. and posted to the district website. Parents were also being called about the closure.

Police declined to provide details about the threats, saying that it would jeopardize their investigation, Herrington said. The threats were made in writing, he told KGW.

There will be an increased police presence when school reopen, he said.

He said the district would be monitoring the situation to inform parents and staff how long the closure would last.
