PORTLAND For the second day in a row, dry weather and high winds led to a series of fires around the Portland area.

Shortly before 1 p.m., an embankment next to Interstate 5 caught on fire just south of the Marquam Bridge near the Interstate 405 exit. The ramp was closed briefly while crews extinguished the flames.

Firefighters said the blaze was caused by a construction crew doing work with a cutting torch.

KGW received reports that crews were battling a 2-alarm brush fire near Northeast 49th Street and Northeast 137th Avenue in Vancouver. Firefighters had the flames extinguished before 4 p.m.

Saturday morning, Gresham crews quickly extinguished a fire at 700 Southwest Eastman Parkway near the Spring Water Trial.
