Separate incidents on two cruise ships forced both to return to port, shortly after leaving Seattle on Sunday.

The Coast Guard said there was a medical emergency on the Norwegian Pearl. Medics were waiting at the pier and the ship continued on with its journey.

In a separate incident, the Grand Princess lost propulsion on the port side. A tug escorted the ship back to Elliott Bay.

Both ships turned back near Kingston.

Curious cruise watchers wondered what had happened when both ships turned back at the same time.
