PORTLAND -- The man arrested after a weekend elevator attack at Portland State University is a former substitute teacher from Hillsboro.

Portland police and PSUcampus police arrested 40-year-old Nate Justin Wheeler at 3:40 a.m. at his home in Portland s Forest Heightstoday.

A background check found that in 2001, when Wheeler was a substitute teacher for Hillsboro School, he was arrested and charged with third-degree sex abuse and delivery of a controlled substance to a minor.

Court records show he pleaded guilty to both charges. The Teacher Standards and Practices Commission of theState of Oregon shows he resigned from his teaching position the next day. The commission also revoked his teaching license.
