SPOKANE -- Spokane Public Schools reports one middle school student was expelled Thursday for bringing a gun to Garry Middle School.
Administrators tell KREM 2 News a Garry Middle School assistant principal found the 9mm gun in the boy's backpack. It was not loaded, but two bullets were also found in the backpack.
According to officials, the boy, 14, said he had the gun because of a fight that was supposed to take place after school. The boy said the gun belongs to his father.
Thirteen additional students were suspended related to the incident, because administrators say they knew about the gun but failed to notify anyone about it.
Police arrested the student and booked him into the Spokane County Juvenile Detention Center for Second Degree Unlawful Possession of a firearm.
A letter was sent home to Garry Middle School parents Thursday regarding the incident.
