Inmate in shackles escapes outside Bellevue court
BELLEVUE -- An inmate in a red jumpsuit and shackles escaped from custody Friday morning outside Bellevue District Court.
Bellevue police say the 21-year-old man may have jumped into a waiting car that sped off.
Police identified him on Twitter as Windell Downs. He was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving in the third degree, and was being transported from King County Jail to the Bellevue District Court when he escaped. He had previously been jailed with bail set at $350,000 on robbery and theft charges.
Bellevue police are asking the public for assistance in locating the man. Hewas last seen running southbound from the Bellevue District Court. Downs is described as a medium-build, light-skinned black male with black hair and brown eyes, and several tattoos on his neck and arms.
