OKANOGAN COUNTY, Wash. -- Okanogan County officials responded to an alleged shooting victim on Cow Camp Road on Pontiac Ridge out of Chesaw Monday afternoon.

Deputies said that when they arrived they found one person who looked to have been shot. That person was pronounced dead at the scene by officials.

Officials said two people were grouse hunting in the area. They said that one person got out of a vehicle to shoot a grouse when the passenger said he heard a shot and saw his partner fall to the ground with blood on him.

The passenger said he drove from the scene to a home in the area to call the police. Deputies said they interviewed people in the area. A home in the area was about 100 yards from the house. The homeowners were also interviewed.

Officials said they are treating the case as a murder investigation but no arrests have been made yet. They said that there are people of interest however, and deputies are still on the scene.

The Washington State Patrol Crime Lab is assisting in the case.
