SALEM Two people were hit in drive-by shooting at a party early Saturday morning in Salem, deputies said.

At around 12:30 a.m., a four-door white Malibu type-car opened fire on party-goers in the 1000 block of Arabian Avenue Southeast, said Don Thomson with the Marion County Sheriff s Office.

David Chavez, 26, was hit in his 1990 Honda Civic and was taken to the hospital, Thomson said. He is in fair condition.

A short while later, 26-year-old Robert Apodaca took himself to the hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound.

Deputies said many of the people at the party were gathered outside, and some were sitting in their cars when the drive-by happened. The suspects fired numerous shots with bullets hitting two nearby residences.

Deputies said at least one party attendee fired a weapon back at the suspects and may have hit the car or its occupants.

Witnesses did not provide descriptions of the suspects in the car.

Detectives were interviewing witnesses and were continuing their investigation.
