KELLER, Wash.-- Downed trees, power lines and phone lines have led Ferry County officials to declare a state of emergency.

A storm ripped through the area around 3:30 Friday afternoon, causing a number of trees to topple.

Most of the county will likely deal with power outages throughout the next couple of days.

Idaho State Police says a Walla Walla man died when a tree fell on his truck near Priest Lake.

The late afternoon winds sent people at the Indian Trails campground scrambling for cover.

We came back to what looks like a disaster at the camp, we were just very fortunate that no one got hurt, said camper Chris Mason.

The Washington State Emergency Management Division will assist the area, as well as the Red Cross, which established a command center in Keller Community Center.

The Department of Transportation says trees and lines are down on Highway 21 from Keller to Republic. Drivers are advised to be cautious and expect delays.
