The Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium welcomed a female sumatran tiger cub Tuesday night.

Zoo staff decided to hand-rear the cub after its mother, Jaya, showed little interest in the newborn.

The cub is in good health and zookeepers are bottle feeding her every three hours, according to general curator Karen Goodrowe Beck.

Keepers will give the cub a special formula, watch her carefully, and provide any other needed care around the clock.

The cub, who hasn't been named yet, won't be available for public viewing for several weeks.
