SANDY, Ore. A beloved family pet was found shot with an arrow Sunday in Sandy.

Now police are trying to figure out who was behind the attack on Pumpkin the cat in the woods near his family's home.

In Defense Of Animals also announced a $2,500 reward for tips that lead to an arrest.

Pumpkin was rushed to a vet in Portland and had emergency care once the Newberry family saw what had happened. Fortunately, the arrow did not puncture any of Pumpkin's vital organs. It went under his shoulder blade and out the other side of his leg.

They're shooting arrows in a neighborhood full of kids, said Katrina Newberry. My daughter goes down and plays in the woods.

Katrina said it was hard to explain the horrible attack to their six-year-old daughter. They got Pumpkin two years ago as a special pet for Addy.

To Pumpkin, I love you, read Addy from a card she made for the cat. Investigators believe Pumpkin was the only target but they have few clues to follow, according to detective Jason Bickle with the Sandy Police Department.

At this point, there is no suspect in the case, Bickle said. I just don't want it to happen again, said Katrina. I don't want it to happen to anybody else's pet.

Anyone with information that may help investigators was asked to call the Sandy Police Department.
