EPHRATA, Wash. A Bureau of Reclamation employee from Boise died Wednesday night after he fell on Monday at a construction site at Pinto Dam.
The dam is located about 18 miles east of Ephrata.
Holger Hal Jensen fell 35 feet onto a concrete surface while conducting an inspection at the dam and suffered extensive head injuries.
Construction was being done at the dam to modify the structure to store additional water.
Bureau of Reclamation spokesman John Redding said icy conditions in and around the dam site may have contributed to the fall.
Employees are in a deep state of mourning, Redding told KTVB.
Jensen, 62, passed away with family gathered by his bedside at Sacred Heart Medical Center. He was a civil engineer with a construction engineering group in Boise, Idaho.
Our hearts are heavy within the Reclamation family today, said Reclamation Commissioner Michael L. Connor. At this time of sadness and tragedy, we want to extend our deepest respect and sympathy for the Jensen family.
Reclamation is conducting an official serious accident investigation.
