A North Bend home was the target of two home invasions in a 12 hour span, with the second one ending with the intruder being stabbed and killed by one of the homeowners Monday morning.

King County Sheriff s Office spokesperson Sgt. Cindi West said the first intrusion happened around 2 p.m. Sunday. A man came in through the back door of the home. A mother, a 7-month-old baby and a mother-in-law were inside.

The intruder allegedly punched the mother and injured her, took some money and left.

Deputies used dogs to search the area for several hours, but didn t find the intruder.

At about 1:45 a.m. Monday, the male homeowner heard his dogs barking. When he went to let his dogs out, he was confronted by a stranger inside the home. The two got into a fight, joined in by the male homeowner s wife.

At some point, one of the two homeowners stabbed and killed the suspect, said West.

You have to do what you have to do to protect your loved ones, said neighbor Steven Vadjinia.

It was not immediately clear Monday if the intruder who was killed was the same one who broke in Sunday.
