SNOHOMISH, Wash. -- Searchers found the body of a man Sunday who had disappeared in the Snohomish River.

Family members confirmed the victim is 21-year-old Derek Harrison.

It is all still sinking in for everyone. They are all still in shock, said Laura Ilar, Harrison s girlfriend.

Harrison and a group of friends were camping out along the river near Bob Herman Wildlife Park Saturday night. Just after midnight, the group was using a canoe to ferry people to a sand bar when the canoe capsized, according to the Snohomish County Sheriff s Office.

They were in a canoe crossing the river and the canoe sank and the rest of them made it across, but Derek didn t, said Ilar.

Deputies said the group was partying on the sand bar and believe alcohol played a role in the drowning. Witnesses told investigators no one in the canoe was wearing a life jacket.

Family members wanted to thank search and rescue teams for responding so quickly and finding Derek.

Everyone he met he touched their heart and everyone loved him. It was impossible not to like him, said Ilar.
