A dead eight-foot-long sturgeon was found Monday in Lake Washington, north of Matthews Beach.

Scientists from the University of Washington School of Fisheries tied the dead sturgeon to a post, and the state Fish and Wildlife department was planning to send a biologist to look at it this week, The Seattle Timesreported.

Sturgeon belong to one of the oldest families of fish, and they are also among the largest fish. White sturgeon, which live along the west coast of North America, can grow up to 20 feet long and weigh more than 1,500 pounds.
