SPOKANE, Wash. -- Detectives are investigating after two people were shot inside of a Hillyard grocery store.

A witness called 911 just after 10:00 p.m. New Years Eve to report a shooting at the Neighborhood Grocery Store near Euclid and Thor. Police arrived to find one man dead, and another man lying on the ground with gunshot wounds.

Paramedics took the second victim to a local hospital. He was listed in critical condition early Wednesday.

With the help of the Air One helicopter, authorities spotted 33-year-old Shannon L. Johnson hiding along the Spokane River under the Greene Street Bridge. Police booked Johnson into the Spokane County Jail on Second Degree Murder and First Degree Assault charges.

There is no word yet on what led to the altercation.
