The National Weather Service radar on Camano Island was out for hours overnight Saturday and into Sunday because of apparent vandalism.

Meteorologists were without coverage for areas north of King County.

Meteorologist Johnny Burg said somebody apparently dug up fiber optic cable, possibly hoping to steal copper out of it but there is no copper there.

It s going to take a while for repairs, Burg said Sunday morning.

The radar was back up and running by 1 p.m. Sunday.

A weather system is expected to move in on Christmas Day, bringing both rain and snow showers. The Hood Canal area could see up to six inches of snow. Latest forecast

Without the Camano radar, meteorologists couldn't see anything to the north and east, plus they didn't have a good idea of what was going into the mountains in the central Cascades and northern Cascades.

The newer Langley Hill radar was operating.
