MTV s 16 and Pregnant certainly has its critics who argue the reality show about teenage parenthood glamorizes the issue. But a recent study shows just the opposite may be true. Researchers at Wellesley College and the University of Maryland found that the show and its spinoff Teen Mom contributed to a nearly 6-percent drop in teen births. Teen pregnancy rates are at historic lows here in the Northwest and around the nation. The study s authors claim the show's portrayal of the travail of teen pregnancy, birth and parenting impacts the way teens think about birth control and abortion. Sexual health educator Amy Lang came by the studio to shed some light on this study. Click on the Northwest Families segment above for her take on it.
