In his first court appearance, suspected drunk driver Mark W. Mullan pleaded not guilty on five charges in the King County Courthouse on Thursday, including two counts of vehicular homicide.

He is also charged with two counts of vehicular assault and one count of reckless driving.

Police arrested Mullan, 50, after an accident in Seattle's Wedgwood neighborhood, where he was allegedly driving under the influence when his truck struck four pedestrians, killing two and seriously wounding a mother and child.

Court documents showed Mullan had a preliminary breath test showed a blood alcohol level of .22, almost three times the legal limit.

The Washington Department of Licensing confirmed that Mullan was driving without a valid driver's license at the time of the accident.

Results of a toxicology test are pending.

Mullan is being held on $2.5 million bail.
