PORTLAND -- A man with a rifle robbed a Southwest Portland bank Thursday morning, and police hoped surveillance images would help lead to his arrest.
The suspect walked into the Umpqua Bank at 7365 SW Barnes Road at about 10:30 a.m. and threatened the three employees in the bank, according to Beth Anne Steele of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
The man demanded money and then ordered the employees to the ground. He left the bank within a few minutes, with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Witnesses said he fled the scene in a dark, 4-door car. He was described as 5-foot-9 to 5-foot-10, with a medium build, wearing a dark hoodie, light jeans, a white mask and goggles.
This robbery and the suspect description is similar to a robbery at the Chase Bank branch located across the street at 7515 SW Barnes Road, Portland, on October 11, 2012, Steele said. In the first robbery, there was no weapon seen although the robber implied that he had one.
Anyone with information was asked to call the FBI at (503) 224-4181.
