A 22-year-old man is in the hospital after being shot by Seattle Police outside a downtown nightclub.

The incident happened just before 2:00 a.m. in the 1000 block of Fairview Ave North. Club security had called 911 earlier to warn police that there might be trouble with the crowd around closing time.

Gang Unit detectives were nearby monitoring the crowd as they left the club when they spotted the suspect firing shots into the club's parking lot. A 26-year-old male victim was struck and later taken to Harborview Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspect ran across Fairview Avenue, where he was confronted by detectives before he pointed a gun at them. Two of the detectives then shot the suspect and took him into custody without further incident.

Medic units transported the suspect to Harborview Medical Center where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries, He will be booked into the King County Jail after he is discharged.

Both of the detectives involved in the shooting will be placed on standard paid administrative leave while the investigation continues.
