GRESHAM, Ore. -- Four people have died in a crash near Southeast Hudson and Lusted roads north of Sandy, according to Deputy Ben Frazier of the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office.
Crews responded about 2:30 a.m. to initial reports of a car into a tree. The driver was dead at the scene. One backseat passenger was pulled from the wreckage by a neighbor and airlifted to the hospital where the person died.
The others perished as the car burst into flames, Frazier said. Arriving emergency crews declared them dead at the scene.
A small dog escaped the wreckage and was later found by a bystander. It had suffered burns and other possible injuries, Frazier said.
A microchip on the dog may help identify one of the victims in the crash, he said. The medical examiner was still working to identify all the victims and hoped to release the information later Monday morning.
The investigation temporary closed both roads.
