PORTLAND -- The Portland Association of Teachers has voted to accept a proposed teacher contract.

School board members are expected to ratify the deal during Monday night s school board meeting. Once that happens, the threat of a teacher strike will be over.

According to the union, teachers overwhelmingly voted in support of the contract.

PAT released the following statement Thursday night:

Late this evening, PAT finished counting ballots and announces that members have officially voted to ratify the tentative agreement. Member participation was remarkable in the number of ballots cast.

Some key compromises include the district hiring more teachers and reducing class sizes. Teachers agreed to add two more school days to the school year.
