BOISE -- A sinkhole created by gophers on Idaho-78 was spotted Monday night, just east of Givens Hot Springs near Marsing.
The gophers caused the highway surface to cave-in and crumble. The Idaho Transportation Department located the hole at around 6 p.m. Monday night and filled it before any drivers could be harmed.
The hole was excavated, then filled with three-quarter-inch gravel and topped with a temporary patch.
The sinkhole expected to be repaved by ITD this summer with permanent asphalt.
The ITD is warning the public to be on the lookout for soft-spots and sinkholes this time of year.
