The driver of a car involved in a fatal crash in downtown Seattle early Saturday has been booked into jail for investigation of vehicular homicide, police say.

The crash happened just after 2 a.m. Saturday. Investigators believe the driver tried to negotiate the Union Street exit curve and lost control, hitting a concrete barrier and rolling over near the Washington State Convention Center.

A witness heard the crash.

Heard this loud sound... and the car was literally just screeching down, screeching down, he said.

Officers say three men in their late 20s and early 30s were inside the car.

One man died at the scene. The 31-year-old driver and the other passenger were taken to Harborview Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

A preliminary investigation found that speed was a factor in the crash.
